This is practice, not the state test, and the questions are not taken from it. The set changes every quarter (this one is 2026-Q4).
Question 1
Which of these changes how far your car needs to stop?
- Whether it is day or night
- Pavement condition
- The number of lanes on the road
- The number of doors on your car
Show answer
Answer: B. Pavement condition
Stopping distance depends on your reaction, your speed, your brakes, and the pavement. Wet roads add distance because your tires grip the road less.
Question 2
Your car is disabled at night on a straight road and you set out flares. How far behind the car should they go?
- About 30 to 50 feet
- 200 to 300 feet
- 10 to 20 feet
- About 600 to 800 feet
Show answer
Answer: B. 200 to 300 feet
Set flares 200 to 300 feet behind a disabled car. That gives drivers coming up from behind time to see the warning and move over safely.
Question 3
Which of these may park on a sidewalk if it does not block walkers?
- A full size pickup truck
- A large delivery van
- A scooter with a 150 cc engine or less
- A passenger car in a hurry
Show answer
Answer: C. A scooter with a 150 cc engine or less
A bicycle, e-bike, moped, or scooter of 150 cc or less may park on a sidewalk if it does not block walkers. Small machines leave room for people to pass.

Question 4
A broken yellow center line means what?
- A stop is coming up ahead
- The road ahead is closed to traffic
- Passing is allowed when it is safe
- Passing is never allowed there at all
Show answer
Answer: C. Passing is allowed when it is safe
A broken yellow center line allows passing in either direction when it is safe. Check for oncoming vehicles before you move out, because the line does not tell you the road is clear.

Question 5
You press the gas pedal and the accelerator sticks while the car keeps speeding up. What should you do?
- Turn the engine off at once
- Shift the car into reverse
- Shift to neutral and steer to safety
- Brake as hard as you can
Show answer
Answer: C. Shift to neutral and steer to safety
Shift to neutral so the engine can no longer drive the wheels, then steer to a safe place and stop. Turn the engine off only after you have stopped.
Question 6
The sky turns dark and the first drops of rain hit the road. When should you slow down?
- Only when you are on hills
- Only when other cars slide
- Only after you start to skid
- At the first sign of rain, snow, or ice
Show answer
Answer: D. At the first sign of rain, snow, or ice
Ease off as soon as rain, snow, or ice begins. Tires lose grip early, so lower your speed before trouble starts rather than after a skid.
